The article discusses the Arrow Incident of October 1856 in which Chinese authorities seized the vessel Arrow which was flying a British flag, which right was supposed to protect trade ships out of Hong Kong after the First Opium War from Chinese by treaty. The incident was the impetus for the Second Opium War. A cartoon of the incident is also presented.
