- Abstract
The article focuses on Italian film director Federico Fellini's use of a painting from an Ancient Greek tomb in his 1968 motion picture "Satyricon." It discusses the archaeological discovery of the tomb and its funerary art in early 1968 in the Greek islands, describes the artwork's themes and iconography and considers the aesthetic reasons for Fellini to have included a fragment of this artwork in the "Art Gallery" scene of his film "Satyricon." The author also discusses the artwork's depiction of Greek society and its mixture of Greek and non-Greeks artistic elements.
