- Abstract
Screening for trauma is not effective in improving our clients/patients’ quality of life. A survivor-centered, trauma-sensitive response to adverse childhood experiences, sexual and intimate partner violence does not force our patients to disclose. Rather this requires health professionals to be trained in creating safe and confidential spaces, offering information and support about trauma with all of our patients, empowering our patients to help others who can use this information, and connecting those patients who are interested to support and advocacy. Such a trauma- sensitive approach also requires the ability of health care systems to work in collaboration with victim service advocates and social services.
