- Title
Our National Shame: Little to No Funding for Elder Abuse Prevention and Response.
- Authors
Greenlee, Kathy
- Abstract
Funding for elder abuse prevention and response is constrained and insufficient. There is no dedicated federal funding for state-administered Adult Protective Services programs, which differs substantially from federal support for child protective services. The departments of Justice and Health & Human Services fund grants for aspects of elder abuse-related efforts. Securing addition federal appropriations requires strategy, persistence, and knowledge of the government appropriations process. This article describes the nature of federal financial support for state protective programs and reviews common sources of federal funding for elder abuse-related efforts.
