- Authors
Walshe, Nicola; Duggan, Vivienne
- Abstract
The article focuses on the Streptococcus equi subsp equi (S equi) or "Strangles," an obligate pathogen of equids which causes high contagious lymphandenitis and pharyngitis. It says that the acute-onset fever in the equids followed by swelling and subsequent abscessation of the lymph nodes are the clinical symptoms of the disease. Moreover, the infected horse is the most important source of infection, wherein it can be transmitted directly by the contact of the animal or through fomites.
