- Abstract
Back pain occurs indistinctly and causes damage to health of the population, in whom its prevalence is high. The amount of time and resources spent with patients who suffer from back pain is considerable and its demand for treatment has grown. The aim of the current paper is to analyse the effects of an exercise program on the painful symptoms and the physical aptitudes related to health. The research features a case study of a descriptive and interventionist character with a quantitative strategy for the analsis of data. The intervention occurred in a gyn located in the city of Natal/RN. The sample is constituted by a 48 year-old woman who suffers from cervical pain and in whose data collected was recorded antropometric measures, skin folds, circumferences by measuring tape, height with a sanny stadiometer, body mass (Filizola scale), aerobic tests ( Balkes Protocol) and flexibility ( Well' bench). To measure the pain it was used the Zabel and McGrew' questionnaire (1997). The results show that there has been an improvement in the score of the painful symptoms from 49 to 21 points, which demonstrate a reduction in pain. Furthermore it was also obtained discreet gains in the physical aptitudes related to health. The practice of physical exercises may be used as a non-medicine therapy, performed in the gym and which can decrease the painful symptoms, keep or improve physical aptitudes and help improve health.
