- Abstract
The article focuses on the role of insurance in providing adequate compensation and in reducing pollution incidents and describes the international oil pollution liability regime that aims to provide adequate compensation against oil pollution damage. It analyzes the success of the liability regime in offering adequate compensation through its various innovative insurance arrangements and compares similar insurance arrangements in other maritime liability laws. It examines the connection between insurance arrangement and the reduction of oil pollution incidents worldwide.
