- Abstract
An essay is presented that discusses a series of the Qing court paintings in the 18th century labeled as paintings of the bird Emo. It suggests that the birds are courassowaries which were widely found in Europe during the period. It also interprets the text by Qianlong emperor attached with the paintings and traces the European origin of the text. It also suggests that there was a global flow of information during the period.
