- Abstract
The article investigates the problems of commercial fish farming industries, analyses and appraises the factors affecting the productivity of commercial fish farming and reveals the trends of the sector development. The research showed that the productivity is mostly affected by the efficiency of the utilisation of the production capacities, consumed fodder volumes per one hectare of the pond area, and the cost price. The efficiency of the employment of the pond areas was found to have a minor effect on the productivity. A more detailed linear regression analysis revealed that a one percent increase in the efficiency of the utilisation of the production capacities and consumed fodder volumes per one hectare of the pond area would lead to a 0.76 and 0.35 percent rise of the productivity, respectively; whereas a one percent increase in the cost price would cut the productivity down by 0.73 percent. The results of a forecast of changes in the production volumes of the commercial fish farming based on time series (limited growth trend) pattern indicate a slight reduction in the production volumes in 2010 through 2013. Although the forecast model is found to be reliable, with respect of the updates and adjustments of the forecasts of the economic indicators triggered by the recession it is rather difficult to forecast the likely changes in the phenomena and indicators.
