- Abstract
The article explores non-domestic dramatic spaces such as the Irish pub and the African barbershop as culturally specific third places in the plays "Conversations on a Homecoming" by Tom Murphy in 1985 and Inua Ellams' 2017 "Barber Shop Chronicles." Topics include the depiction in both plays of the experiences of their representative diasporic communities, the significance of everyday third spaces such as the Irish pubs, and a comparison of Ellams' eponymous barbershop to the Irish pub.
