- Abstract
Environmental Education (EE) emerges as a strategic way to face the environmental, cultural and social crisis. Thus, the present study aimed to explore perceptions about EE in the context of students, in order to instigate and contribute to the construction of critical, conscious and multidisciplinary thinking. This is an exploratory-participatory and quali-quantitative study. Data collection was carried out at the School of Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education Rotary (Crato - Ceará - Brazil), with classrooms from the 6th to the 8th year, through semi-structured questionnaires on the EE theme, in two moments (pre and post-theoretical-practical educational exhibitions). The data were analyzed in a qualitative and quantitative way through graphs. From a sample of 51 participants (mostly female, rural residents, between 12 and 14 years old), the main findings were obtained: (1) Pre-intervention: students were unaware of the socio-environmental component of EE; garbage and pollution were the main environmental problems identified; attributed to the population, the responsibility of these problems; and considered EE to be important; (2) Post-intervention: started to indicate the socio-environmental component of the EE; list agriculture as an environmental problem; distribute the responsibility to the government, industries and agriculture; and describe EE as important for awareness, preservation and sustainability. In summary, it was observed the awakening of a more critical and conscious view on the importance of the role of students for the establishment of EE, in addition, this research expanded the horizons on possible ways of working EE in schools in a playful, thought-provoking way and criticalreflective.
