LA EDICIÓN LETRADA EN LA INDEPENDENCIA NOVOHISPANA: ESTRATEGIAS Y APROPIACIONES.

ROSETTI, MARIANA
- Abstract
The article analyzes the strategies and appropriations of written editions during the New Spanish independence, focusing on the editions of the works of Bartolomé de Las Casas and Bernardino de Sahagún carried out by Servando Teresa de Mier and Carlos María de Bustamante respectively. These editions were fundamental for the construction of a discourse denouncing the Spanish conquest in America and highlight the role of Mier and Bustamante as opinion makers in the context of Hispanic American emancipations. The literates used writing as a weapon of attack and criticism against the process of conquest and colonization of the New World, drawing inspiration from the research of Las Casas and Sahagún to rescue the virtues of the Americas and denounce the crimes of the conquest. Additionally, they established links with European figures such as Bishop Grégoire to disseminate their works.
