- Abstract
Mehmet Akif Ersoy was one of the prominent poets of early 20th century Turkish literature. Âkif published his first poems in 1894, followed by a silence of about 15 years, but re-entered the literary circles after the 1908 Constitutional Monarchy. In this attitude of Akif, there is a preventive effect of the oppressive understanding of Abdulhamid II, which reached its peak especially in the 1890s. After the Second Constitutional Monarchy, he returned to the press circles with a new enthusiasm and made a name for himself with the magazines he published. The genre in which Mehmet Akif produced most literary works is verse story. The poet didn't follow a monotonous way of expression in his works of this type, he resorted to various expression techniques. Narration, description and dialogue techniques are the ways of expression that the poet frequently resorts to in these verse stories, each of which is fictionalized as a narrative and sometimes even a novel. Mehmet Akif, who applies narration of events, descriptions of places or people, and interpersonal dialogue to the text in a certain form order, highlights any of them according to the purpose or uses them with a balanced distribution. He almost always acted with a realistic point of view, reflecting the event-placeperson trio as if it were a mirror to life. In his verse, he told realistic stories, most of which were the product of his own observations, created anecdotal texts, drew pictures from life, tried to make visible the lesson he wanted the reader to learn, the message he wanted to give to the reader, and the meaning he wanted to convey, mostly with narrative and/or descriptive narration. The determining aspects of the poet's style are that he chooses the types he reflects from life, tries to stay true to the narratives of events and situations, and makes people talk according to their social status in the dialogues.
