- Abstract
The particular definitions of Enlightenments -even though they all emphasized the employment of reason- have been resulted in various political results which are subjects of altered usages of the concept of reason. Thus, in respect of historical point of view it is proper to note that there are Enlightenments rather than only one Enlightenment. This article is composed of a comparison between German Enlightenment which affirms objective rationalism in respect of epistemology and ethics, and British Enlightenment which maintains the subjective assignments of reason. At the end of such a comparison between the following ideas of Kant and Hume we come closer to a political discussion between republicanism and pragmatism-oriented democracy. In this respect, some contradictory results are considered such as ‘tyranny of majority’, the ignorance on political participation and the overwhelming influence of economical rationality on political sphere.
