The author reflects on the potential impact of the regional initiative Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) on access to affordable medicines in developing countries. He discusses the Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS)-Plus measures as categorized by the international organization Médecins Sans Frontières which include one on the demands for intellectual property rights (IPR) protection by the United States Trade Representative (USTR).
