- Abstract
Across many cultures, the word green has broad and important meanings. In some cultures, green symbolizes hope and growth, a clear association with nature. Also in the context of nature, green is associated with regeneration, fertility, and rebirth. In education, there has lately developed a new concept of "green education." The aim of green education is to provide "sustainability education" and empower youth to learn and adopt lifelong habits of environmental stewardship. This concept utilizes a new cultivation model to deal with education issues in the new era. It acknowledges that the youth learn best through creative educational approaches designed to enhance their critical thinking skills. Today, I will present one university established with this green concept-our university, Zhejiang Yuexiu University of Foreign Languages. Under this concept of green education, Yuexiu is registered by the PRC Ministry of Education as a fulltime university. The University aims to provide a unique, green educational experience by considering societal needs, advocating the development of student and staff talents, cultivating useful and practical foreign language talents, and qualifying business management graduates not only with professional business development, but also with foreign language competence.
