- Title
Don't Leave Home Without It! Using Umbrellas in Teaching the Theory of Religion.
- Authors
Agnew, Elizabeth N.
- Abstract
The article reflects on the significance of umbrella in teaching the theory of religion. Following initial discussion about the basic dimensions of religion, introducing an open umbrella to symbolize a "sacred canopy" is a useful visual strategy for reflecting on the function, construction, and dynamic nature of religion. Students observe that an umbrella, as a form of "canopy" functions as a framework of order and protection amidst unpredictable forces of nature.
