- Abstract
This article offers a look at the book "The Professor's House," by Willa Cather. The author explores whether the vision U.S. of German historian and philosopher Oswald Spengler influenced the novel and discusses the work of other writers who were influenced by Spengler. The character Godfrey St. Peter, whom the author calls an intellectual nomad, is discussed in relation to Spengler's views on geographic migration, cultural decline and urbanization. The theme of imperialism in the novel is addressed.
