- Abstract
In this essay, the author considers the autobiographical essays of intellectual Walter Benjamin (1892–1940) and poet Wystan Hugh Auden (1907–1973), focusing particularly on how the authors depict faces and portraits in their writings. Also considered is the genre of autobiography, Benjamin's and Auden's representations of self, and modernity in literature.
