- Abstract
The articles discusses the adolescence and youth of author Wallace Stegner among Mormons in Salt Lake City, Utah. The author reflects on social effects of the transition of Mormonism from a young radical religious movement to a mainstream religion. Emphasis is given to Stegner's development as an author and his impressions of Mormons, Mormon families, history, and the Mormon faith. Stegner's commentary on Mormon frontier violence is explored. Other topics include depictions of Mormon pioneers, the leadership of Mormon leader Brigham Young, and stable family life.
