The author comments on the article "Elephants," by Michael Kremer and Charles Morcom, in the March 2000 issue of "American Economic Review." He cites the shortcomings of the article such as the authors' assumptions that ivory trade is legal, that elephant habitat is constant and that all elephants exist in a state of open-access. He believes they should have explored a more institutional approach to elephant conservation.
