- Title
Reparations to People of African Descent in the United States.
- Authors
Tyehimba, Kibibi
- Abstract
The article focuses on the reparation movement in the U.S. for people of African descent. The author provides a brief history of reparation in the country, including the Emancipation Proclamation signed by former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln in 1863 and the lack of monetary compensation for slaves freed in the late 1900s in the U.S. The author emphasizes that very little has been done to tend to the psychological effects of slavery and the consequential oppression inflicted upon people of African descent in the U.S. The author provides testimony that he presented on behalf of the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America (N'COBRA) to the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties regarding reparations on December 18th, 2007.
