- Abstract
The article discusses and presents images of paintings of Crawford Notch in the White Mountains of New Hampshire completed between 1872 and 1909. It discusses the work "Crawford Notch" by Thomas Hill, which the author suggests was a companion piece to Hill's painting "White Mountain Notch" and depicts the notch prior to a fatal 1872 avalanche. The works "The Crawford Notch" by Frank Henry Shapleigh and "Gateway of Crawford Notch—White Mountains—N.H. from Selinger’s Studio Grove" by Jean Paul Selinger are also discussed. Brief timelines outlining the artists' lives are also presented.
