- Abstract
1 Edmonton Obesity Staging System, adapted from Atlantis et al. [[15]] EOSS has been used as a tool for organizing obesity treatment pathways in different scenarios. The International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) published at the end of the year 2022 a joint position statement updating the indications for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MBS) [[1]]. This cohort showed EOSS was able to predict mortality risk independently from BMI classification alone, which means that an individual with BMI 30-34.9 kg/m SP 2 sp can have higher EOSS staging and, thus, higher mortality risk than another with BMI > 40 kg/m SP 2 sp , depending on the severity of obesity-related comorbidities and the impact of obesity on mental health and functional status.
