SPECIAL MEETING. Fourth Session, 27th May, half past 7 o'clock, P. M.
- Abstract
The facts seem to indicate that the primary action of the light is not upon the carbonic acid, but upon the nitrogenized ferment; and that the decomposition of the gas occurs as a secondary result. On causing leaves to decompose a known volume of carbonic acid, the same volume of the mixed oxygen and nitrogen makes its appearance. In fact, the decomposition of carbonic acid is only one of a very numerous series. Professor Draper presented a communication, entitled, "On the Decomposition of Carbonic Acid and the Alkaline Carbonates by the Light of the Sun", byjohn W. Draper, M.D., Professor in the University of New York City.
