- Abstract
An essay is presented on the portrayal of the U.S. and Sioux Indian relationship in the novel "The Prairie" by James Fenimore Cooper. The book as a part of Cooper's set of work is explored and it is suggested that the novel portrays the anxiety of the U.S. regarding the potential loss of control of settlements to the Sioux tribe.
