- Abstract
The article reports on the initiative of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in developing a common program for point-of-care diagnostic devices to be used in developing countries. It states that the foundation has projected a device capable to diagnose a syphilis might keep 215,000 stillbirths. According to Mickey Urdea, managing partner of Halteres Associates LLC, in developing a common paltform is not an easy task, while moving to an open-source system means sharing of technology.
