- Authors
Kenyon, C.; Mallaiah, S.; Djabatey, E.; McNamara, H.
- Abstract
The article discusses the Association of Anesthetists' guidelines on cell salvage for peri-operative blood conservation which discourages the use of cell salvage in obstetrics. The guidelines are based on research which showed that routine cell salvage do not reduced allogeneic blood transfusion. The article cites the reasons for the routine use of cell salvage at the Liverpool Women's Hospital. The authors call on the association to consider the clinical and economic benefits of cell salvage.
