- Abstract
This letter is a response to a previous article on the optimal timing of endoscopy in patients taking anticoagulants with upper gastrointestinal bleeding (NVUGIB). The authors of the response analyzed data from adult patients using anticoagulants and found that early endoscopy (≤ 24 hours) was associated with more endoscopic therapy, a shorter hospital stay, and more frequent admission to intermediate/intensive care units compared to delayed endoscopy (> 24 hours). However, there were no differences in outcomes such as the need for surgery, recurrent bleeding, and 30-day mortality between the two groups. The authors suggest that early endoscopy should be the preferred strategy for patients with NVUGIB taking anticoagulants. They also discuss other studies that have different findings and highlight the importance of considering factors such as age and anticoagulant use when interpreting the results. Overall, the research supports early endoscopy as the optimal approach for managing NVUGIB, regardless of anticoagulant use.
