- Abstract
The article discusses how to prevent narrow channel collisions and its impact in the bid of the U.S. National Strategy for the Marine Transportation System to maintain an effective, efficient and safe Marine Transportation System (MTS). It cites the narrow channel rule contained in the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGS) and the U.S. Inland Navigation Rules to help manage risk in narrow channels. Information is also given on the support of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to clearly define narrow channel.
