- Abstract
The article presents the author's comments on a study that reveals the molecular mechanisms by which a transporter protein harnesses the thermodynamic forces of transmembrane electrochemical ion gradients. He says that the molecular mechanism by which energy is converted to perform useful work in living cells raises questions. He observes that structural biology of membrane transport proteins and ion channels is becoming a reality, which was studied by researcher I.T. Arkin.
