- Title
REPRESENTATION AND ETHICS IN MOVING IMAGE ARCHIVES.
- Authors
RAO, NINA
- Abstract
The article discusses ethical practices in film archives through an examination of the ethical guidelines for professional practice issued by the Fédération Internationale des Archives du Film (FIAF) and the Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA). It describes ways in which the FIAF code of ethics does not address issues regarding amateur and documentary films and questions the responsibilities of archivists in protecting the cultural and individual rights of filmmakers and copyright holders. It explores how the codes address topics related to the viewing of archival film footage including privacy and consent of the subjects who are filmed, filmmaker rights, and cultural awareness of the viewer.
