- Abstract
Recently, globalization and technological developments have revealed alternative tourism routes as a result of changes in the tourism sector, as in all sectors. "Olive oil tourism" is an indispensable element of tours, especially because it includes culture as well as health and cosmetic purposes. Olives and olive oil have more meaning than just foodstuffs and have versatile properties, making them an element of cultural heritage. These gastronomic products of the regions turn into touristic attractions for destinations.This alternative type of tourism, seen in areas where olive trees grow, is referred to as olive oil tourism. The aim of this study is to show that olive oil tourism, which is a natural heritage in the region, can be carried out and a cultural olive oil route can be created in the region, with the presence of registered products in Edremit Bay in Balıkesir province, rich olive diversity and quality olive oil production potential.In this study, olive oil routes in the world have been examined in detail, and theoretical background has been provided and suggestions have been presented to create an olive oil route in Edremit Bay. The study serves as a guide for new studies in this field and contributes to the field.
