- Abstract
In an urbanized area of the Eastern district of Marbella, and infested with the little fire ant Wasmannia auropunctata, the apparent exclusion of other ant species is described. By using baits arranged in seven infested transects and in six transects on their periphery, 14 non-Wasmannia species (12 genera) were recorded in the outer zone, while only one non-Wasmannia species was recorded in the infested zone. Wasmannia occupied 5.7 ha in 2018 and 16 ha in 2023. Benalmádena is added as a fourth municipality on the south Spanish coast in which that species has been detected.
