- Abstract
At first glance, the focal object in both underwater photographs may appear to be a rock, but look closely: can you see an octopus's eye? These cunning octopuses can adjust their appearance to resemble a variety of objects, such as a rocky substrate (left) or a violet sea urchin ( I Sphaerechinus granularis i ) with white-tipped spines (right). Having just captured a crab, this common octopus ( I Octopus vulgaris i ) now searches for a safe location to enjoy its lunch.
