- Title
Sinking & Floating: A Graphical Representation of the Concept Density.
- Authors
Benedis-Grab, Gregory
- Abstract
The article discusses the graphical representation of the concept of density among middle school students in the U.S. According to the author, the graphical depiction of mass and volume would help students to better understand and apply the concept of floating and sinking. However, before the method is introduced to the students, a thorough discussion on developed hypothesis concerning floating and sinking are first conducted. To test their hypothesis, various materials are tested in an experiment. The experiment convinced students that the object's mass and volume are not enough to determine sinking and floating.
