- Abstract
Lyocell Fiber (LF) with antimicrobial activity is of interest in textile and medical supplies. In this study, a new Schiff base ligand and copper ion (Cu (II)) complex antibacterial Lyocell fiber was prepared. Firstly, LF was oxidized to dialdehyde fiber (DLF) by sodium periodate. Then DLF was treated with 4-Amino-benzenesulfonic acid monosodium salt to form Schiff base ligand fiber (SLF). After complexing with copper ions, SLF changed to Schiff base-Copper ligand Lyocell fiber (SLF-Cu). The modified LF intermediates and SLF-Cu were characterized by FTIR, XRD, XPS, SEM and EDS. Antibacterial activity of SLF-Cu were investigated against two different kinds of bacteria (Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S.aureus)) through the colony forming count method, and compared to LF and SLF. The results showed that the bacteriostatic rate of SLF-Cu to E.coli and S.aureus was more than 99%. This paper aims to improve the antibacterial durability of antibacterial Lyocell fiber.
