"BETRAY THEM BOTH, OR GIVE BACK WHAT THEY GIVE?": DEREK WALCOTT'S DETERRITORIALIZATION OF WESTERN MYTH.
- Authors
Irvine, Alexander
- Abstract
The article examines the navigational images and language in the works of poet Derek Walcott. It can be assumed that the works of Walcott is an extended meditation of his existence between the English language and an Afro-Caribbean tradition. The reader-text interaction in his poem "Omeros" is deterritorialized. In his work "Sea Grapes," Walcott is hostile on the idea that Western literary tradition should be assimilated.
