- Abstract
This article, titled "Leaf-Dicing Masters: Jackfruit Leaf Processing by the Indian Giant Squirrel as a Means to Avoid Latex," describes the active food processing behavior of the Indian giant squirrel, Ratufa indica maxima. The study focuses on the removal of the midrib from mature leaves of two Artocarpus species by the squirrel, which prevents the delivery of concentrated latex to the leaf blades. The researchers suggest that the high plant density and co-evolutionary period may have facilitated this processing behavior. The article includes photographs illustrating the squirrel's leaf feeding and the process of midrib removal.
