- Title
OE YĐHENGEST AND AN UNRECOGNIZED PASSAGE OF OLD ENGLISH VERSE.
- Authors
Bredehoft, Thomas A.
- Abstract
The author focuses on the Old English word "yohengestas," which only appears in annal 1003 of the "Anglo-Saxon Chronicle." The author reports that although the word is a compound, much like a number of Old English words, it stands out because such compounds were traditionally only used in poetry. The author examines the structure of Old English poetry and the use of alliteration in the "Anglo-Saxon Chronicle."
