The article analyzes several poems by Robert Lowell including "Reading Myself," "Eating Out Alone," and "This Golden Summer." Written during the last decade of Lowell's life, the author explores how the poems reflect the poet's attempt to find comfort in understanding and forgiveness. Other topics covered include Lowell's use of poetic forms, themes of death, and themes of friendship.
