- Abstract
Electroslag melting (EMR) technology is promising, in particular for production of hollow billets used in the manufacture of critical high quality components for power generation with high added cost. A technology is developed at NPO TsNIITMASh for production of high quality pipe billets by the ESM method for thermal and nuclear power plant pipelines that are developed within Russia at the Energomash (Belgorod) - BZEM. One of the main factors of the technology is control of ingot the melting rate that affects ingot quality. The effect of melting rate on ESM billet quality is studied using computer and full-scale modeling, remelting parameters are analyzed, and metal microstructure and properties are determined. A method is provided for controlling metal solidification and structure.
