- Abstract
In order to ensure timely publication of our article "Acute abdomen in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection or co-infection" [[1]], the reported follow-up was a minimum of 4 weeks for all patients who underwent emergency abdominal surgery during their COVID-19 disease. It is of importance to address the long-term outcome of surgical procedures, and particularly to determine if patients with an acute abdomen have an increased mortality risk due to a SARS-CoV-2 infection. In the COVIDSurg Collaborative study we participated in, a first analysis of 1128 patients with perioperative SARS-CoV-2 infection showed a 19.1% postsurgical mortality rate in elective surgery, even surpassed by a 26.0% mortality rate in emergency surgery during a 30-day follow-up [[3]].
