- Abstract
Soil moisture content has paramount importance for many activities, such as agriculture, livestock and ecology. This knowledge is taught in several subject-matters related to the environment and agriculture. An Operational Water Balance Model for Agriculture (OWBM) that allows quantifying the water stored in the soil and available for plants was developed at the School of Agronomy of the University of Buenos Aires (FAUBA) in 2012. The aim of this paper was to present a simplified version of the model for teaching use, allowing students to analyze the results with a greater and easier understanding of soil water dynamic. The model was developed on a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, designed in nine sheets. It is free to use and is available on the web page of the Agroclimatic Information Center (CIAg) of the FAUBA (www.agro.uba.ar/centros/ciag/servicios), and on the website of the School of Agricultural Sciences of the National University of Jujuy (FCA-UNJu).
