- Abstract
Passion fruit is a tropical plant, grown throughout the Brazilian territory, with the northeast region standing out in planted area and in production, however, the central-west region through the development of research and use of technologies to increase productivity seeks significant insertion in of supplier market. The present study aimed to provide panoramic information on the cultivation and production prospects of passion fruit with an emphasis on the Midwest. There was a search for information on the academic google, books and materials published by reference research groups on the cultivation of passion fruit, in addition to consulting the websites of government agencies. There was an increase in the planted area for the northeast and southeast regions in the 2018 harvest, while the northern, southern and central-western regions reduced the planted area and increased the average yield of production. The Federal District obtained an average productivity of 27 t ha-1, well above the national average. Through the information obtained, the potential of the midwest region for passiculture becomes evident, however, it is necessary to carry out studies to evaluate the agronomic performance of existing cultivars, in the different climatic conditions of this region, as well as to develop new cultivars.
