- Abstract
The book "Breaking the Spell. Philosophy, Drama, and Image in Plato" by Claudia Carbonell is a reflection on Greek philosophy and its relationship with image and drama. The author focuses on three late dialogues by Plato (Parmenides, Theaetetus, and Sophist) to analyze how images and literary strategies contribute to the development of Platonic theories and arguments. Carbonell argues that the dialogical form of Plato's writings is not only a form of philosophical communication but also reinforces the representational nature of philosophy. The book offers a philosophical reading of Plato's dialogues and shows how the image can be reflected upon, thought about, and dialogued in order to grasp the totality of reality.
