- Abstract
Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging (DITI), called thermography, is a fast non invasive, and non-radiant imaging method that uses radiation for a few minutes. The principle of operation is simple, the heat emitted by the body is processed and recorded in the form of a thermal map. The doctor uses this thermal map to determine the areas with a predefined local temperature specificity for oncological diseases. Thermography highlights traumatic, acute, chronic and neoplastic inflammatory conditions. Temperature differences with sensitivity of up to a few hundredths of a degree allow the differential diagnosis of these lesions, the main condition being their topographic location (cutaneous or subcutaneous) because infrared radiation does not penetrate too deep into the tissues. Using ultrasounds, there were confirmed the structural and density-related modifications of the thermographically evaluated tissues and, subsequently, by aspiration puncture or excisional biopsy, the nature of the affected tissue, the type of neoplasia and the degree of differentiation of the malignant/benign cells were established with certainty.
