The article discusses techniques in determining airflow quantity supplied by an outlet in a variable air volume (VAV) system. According to the article, while newer measuring devices such a hot wire or hot film anemometer are convenient and portable, they are highly dependent on measurement location, sensor tip geometry and temperature. The use of pitot traverse in a straight run of duct using pressure independent VAV with averaging inlet sensors can be a very effective technique.
