- Abstract
Rather than analyzing a particular episode in Algerian-Turkish relations, this chapter intends to identify the specific nature of the basically cooperative relations Algeria and Turkey have established for the last 20 years (2000/2-2022). Therefore, we set forward two hypotheses, either this cooperation is the result of certain nationalist convergence in foreign policy, conjuncture-driven and necessarily weak, or it derives from a mid-term strong synergy originated from functional interactions that eventually will allow both countries to exceed the limited margins of a so-far almost single-issue economic cooperation. Likewise, we address the central question of this special issue on what are the factors and issues leading to a more cooperative bilateral relation.
