- Title
The Perfect Storm Over Stucco.
- Authors
Lstiburek, Joseph W.
- Abstract
The article discusses factors which cause stucco cladding to fail, the majority of which are said to involve changes in the standard methods of house construction. Plastic vapor barriers and housewrap, oriented strand board sheathing and changes in the formulation of the stucco itself are all implicated. Any combination of such factors is said to increase the rate of stucco failure, and examples of extreme cases are provided. Recommended techniques for preventing such problems are outlined, such as using a layer of foam to create a drainage space.
